Parents left daughter home alone with numerous dead animals while they went to Florida, police say
UNION, S.C. (WHNS/Gray News) – Two parents in South Carolina are facing charges after police say they left a teen home alone with numerous dead animals while they went to Florida.
The Union Police Department said officers were called out to a home on Park Drive along with animal control on May 27.
At the home, officers spoke with a 17-year-old girl who lived there.
The teen put her mother on the phone and gave officials permission to enter.
Inside the house, officers said they found three living dogs, 39 living cats, and several dead cats throughout the home. They also noted there was animal feces everywhere.
Officers said they also found 20 additional dead cats in a freezer that did not have power.
According to arrest warrants, 41-year-old Alicia Marie Capps and 34-year-old Justin Bowen Capps left the teen at home by herself while they went to Florida.
Officials said Alicia and Justin Capps were each charged with three counts of ill treatment of animals and one count of unlawful neglect of a child. They were both given a $25,000 bond.
