Some victims ID’d in crashes this week in 4 area counties

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two of four victims have been identified after being killed this week in crashes in four different South Carolina counties, authorities updated us on Wednesday.

Bamberg

A 53-year-old pedestrian was identified on Wednesday, after dying in a crash in Bamberg County on Tuesday, according to the coroner.

The Bamberg County Coroner’s Office confirms the victim was Parker Chavis, of Williston.

According to troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened on S.C. 61 at U.S. 21 at 1:22 p.m.

Troopers say a 2020 Toyota Corolla was traveling west on S.C. 61 while a tractor-trailer was traveling north on U.S. 21.

Troopers say the driver of the Corolla collided with the tractor-trailer, causing the tractor-trailer to collide with the pedestrian.

The pedestrian died on the scene due to their injuries, according to troopers.

The drivers of the Corolla and tractor-trailer were injured and taken to area hospitals.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Edgefield

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of a 1972 Chevy sedan was traveling south on West Five Notch Road when they left off the roadway and struck a tree on Oct. 1.

Authorities say they arrived at the scene near Feagin Drive eight miles south of Edgefield at 8:02 p.m.

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene.

Aiken

A 34-year-old died after traveling off a roadway and striking a tree in Aiken County on Tuesday morning, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities say that on Oct. 1 at 5:20 a.m. they responded to a single-vehicle crash on Old Barnwell Road near Candlewood Road six miles east of Aiken.

The sole occupant of a Ford Focus was traveling south on Barnwell when they traveled right off the road and crashed into a tree, according to officers.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating a single vehicle that has claimed the life of a Williston man.

At 5:44 a.m., the Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables was called to Old Barnwell Road near Candlewood Road for a single-vehicle accident.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 34-year-old Trevor Davis was pronounced deceased on scene at 6:10 a.m. from injuries sustained in the accident, Ables says.

The Coroner’s Office along with Highway Patrol are continuing with the investigation. Toxicology analyses are pending.

Orangeburg

Less than 24 hours before in Orangeburg County, a pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on a highway in Orangeburg County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Authorities say on Sept. 30, officers responded to the crash on U.S. 601 at Magnolia Street about one mile north of Orangeburg, that happened at 9:28 p.m.

The only occupant of a 2019 Hyundai Sonata was driving south on U.S. 601 when they struck a pedestrian who was crossing west on U.S. 601, according to authorities.

The driver was transported to a local hospital, officers say.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
